competitive race?

I am interested in attending a race in upstate New York or Vermont to
watch.  Does anyone know when a race will be held in these areas?  Is
there a website I can log onto?  What is the best way for someone to get
started?  I own a 11 yo stb, I am 53 yo.  would love to compete and finish
a 25 mile race.  Is this the shortest?  Thanks.
