Try rodeo for expensive horse sports also..  $25 per run, less than 20 
seconds of competition time. 
 
And dressage/sporthorse breeding:  $120 for the professional handler for 3 
in-hand classes and 2 championships, $90 for the stall, $36 for the 6 bags 
of shavings, $60 for the tack stall (shared with another rider), $50 for the 
tests, plus misc fees for USAE and IAHA.  Hotel for 3 (me, trainer and 
owner), $150.  Plus gas.  Plus meals.  Plus time off work.  All for a few 
minutes of stress, some pretty ribbons and garland of fake flowers and a 
glass bowl. 
 
Compared to this, I don't think endurance is expensive at all!
