[RC] Affording a Horse - Ridecamp Guest
K S SWIGART katswig@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I consider it worthwhile to note that there IS a difference
between what I can afford, what I am willing to pay, and what
I would like to pay.
So...
when Howard makes a comment about the savings he is making by
keeping his horse's barefoot and trimming them himself, and how
this might make it so he can afford to go to more endurance rides
in far away places (like the XP),
he is not stating that he cannot AFFORD to pay a shoer, but only
that he if he doesn't have to pay a shoer he can spend his money
on other more fun things.
And who wouldn't rather spend their money in that way if they
can?
Just because one is willing to save money if one can and comment
on the benefit of the cost savings of a technique, does not
mean that one cannot afford one's horse.

p.s. Howard, if you save enough money to go to the XP by keeping
your horse barefoot down there in your sand box, just remember to
figure in the cost of providing some kind of hoof protection for
your horses in part of the cost of going to the XP--'cuz they
are gonna need it (don't bother to do the experiment yourself;
I already did it).
