Do you consider "hoof mechanism" to be the capability for hoof expansion?
Yes, shoes can inhibit that. We use 4-6 nails toward the front. 8 nails
create a "cast" of sort on the hoof and inhibits blood flow. We shoe a lot
of horses...shoes themselves are not the evil. Poor shoeing practices, poor
breeding choices which perpetuate poor hooves and feet in general....a
number of things. A talented professional farrier can do wonders for a
horse. They can't make miracles...we have horses who have such poor feet
and were born that way and then shod horribly that there is not much we can
do with them when they come our way. Fortunately, they are the exception.
    :)
