Ridecamp: [RC] DEER FLIES!!!!

any body have any tricks to keep those damn deer flies away when riding?
none of the fly sprays work. i carry a bottle with me, and squirt them all 
the time.
they come right back. even if they don't land they SWARM. they bite me too. 
even with "OFF!" on. they can keep up to a trot. what eats deerflies? birds? 
what if i tied  little fake birds all over my horse?(lol, just kidding!)
i also use the fly masks. they try to bite threw them anyway, but for the 
most part they keep the face  and ears safe.the bugs are particularly bad 
this year.
What do I need to smell like to keep them away?
