I agree with Truman. The ride manager can use
discrepancy on refunds from the ride, but the RM must pay for all starters.
Starting is when the clock starts.
I was at a ride locally a few years ago that was a
disaster. The 12 1/2 mile loop turned into 18-20 miles. I am pretty sure we went
past the starting point. When we got back to base camp, we were so disgusted we
packed up and left. So did several other people. So about 12 or so of us did at
least 18-20 but were not even listed as starters. That was money AERC didn't
get.
We could have/should have filed a protest but it is
a done deal now. (Hint: put your money where your mouth is or let it
go)
Even if it is only one or two people at each
ride who "casually" drop out and are not listed as starters, that is
quite a bit of money AERC is not getting. For the MW region in the months of
June/July there are about 25 rides. If just two casually drop out of each ride,
that is 50 riders. Last time I sent in starter fees it was $5 per rider,
multiplied by 50 is $250. Is that right?? That is one region, one month.
Mucho Dinero AERC is not getting.
I think the RM's should have as much leeway(sp?) as
we can possibly give them. It is a hard job and people do it because they want
to. As much as I hate rules, (I despise them!) they are intended to make the
playing field equal for all. If I have to pay for all starters, then the RM's
everywhere should have to pay for all starters. The RM can always subtract that
from the ride fee before they give a refund.
I would like to suggest to those who are involved
and don't think it is fair to let them know (AERC) or let it go. I would hate to
think that AERC would have to send spies to rides to count starters. Or worse
yet, assign ride stewards to watch over the whole ride. Come on people, quit
your bitch'en and pee or get off the pot. The protest committee could use the
money, too! ;}

I do not want
people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great
deal. Ride camp
