[RC] equine tape worms (ugh!) - GoTory
Here in Northern CA we've recently heard of an epidemic of tapeworms in
horses, due to a warm winter not killing the eggs and horses grazing same
forage and "sharing the wealth". Initial diagnosis apparently was made after
one mare was "off" and intermittently kicking at her belly. New fecal test
available, as I understand it (third hand, by the way) by the manufacturer
of Strongid, and recommended treatment was 2 doses of the Strongid paste.
This mare was on the Strongid daily formula at the time of diagnosis.
Ensuing tests on other horses at the same boarding facility have
ALL been positive...
Seems like a high percentage but I don't recall having heard of this before
so am looking to the expertise of RideCamp for more information.....Thanks!
