I had a mare that would get a sore back quite often. First I found that I
had to keep her back spotless clean especially before an endurance ride.
Which meant, washing her back and putting a sheet on her in case she layed
down. And on a multi-day, that meant a clean saddle pad everyday and
washing her back every night.
Another thing that I found out from her chiropracter was when she was coming
into heat her ovary points which are located in the lower back would become
very sensitive and if you ran your hand hard down her back, she would just
about sit down.
At the time I wasn't riding in my sport saddle and I think that could have
helped her quite a bit also.
Just some of my experiences with a sore backed horse.
