[RC] Fireworks - kathy . mayeda
Fireworks is a really fun ride. It's one of the easier
rides out West. You camp on an ocean terrace and it can
be a little windy and foggy at night. Just blanket your
horse. You might start out in fog, but most of the time
it's high fog and the visibility isn't too bad. It
burns off later. This is the natural "air conditioning"
that makes this ride so nice. It shouldn't be too hot,
so that makes it a good first ride.
It has a controlled start because there is a bridge in a
ravine with a single track trail. That doesn't mean
that the horses are ALL controlled, though. Just give
yourself plenty of room between horses.
The footing isn't really the best but it's nothing to
pad for unless you have a particularly sensitive horse.
It ranges from sand to shale, hard chert, sandstone,
nice fire roads, and my favorite part is a little single
track of really fine sand.
The hills aren't really too bad. There are a few
steeper parts, but thankfully not too long. The ride
through the redwoods is gorgeous.
This will be the fourth year for me and Beau on this
ride. I hadn't been planning on doing this ride this
year, but it looks like this will be the ride I need to
do between finishing up the Gastrogard therapy and
Swanton.
