Re: [RC] [RC] Leaving after rides - Deanna German
I'm wieghing in with Scott that there are some thin-skinned folks out there.
Guilt complex? Maybe, maybe not. Yes, it needed to be pointed out that folks
loading up post-IV generally ARE acting in the best interest of the horse.
However, Scott's outrage is only slightly misplaced; at least his eyes are
wide open. At the risk of generalizing, there seem to be some oldbies who
have lost their perspective. Sometimes it takes a newbie with fresh eyes to
point things out the way they are or appear to be. I've been wrong about
enough things to not take the same stand that Scott did but I'm hoping that
some of the things that I've observed at the few endurance rides I've been
to aren't what they appeared to be. Best that I pay attention to replacing
the glass in the glass house that I live in. Perhaps others are working on
the same thing.
Suppose the percentage of people not taking proper care of their mounts IS
edging upward as people come to the sport from a show or pleasure background
rather than the working background that was more common years ago. (I
believe "someone" pointed out in a different thread that that is one way the
sport has changed.)

:o)
No, Scott, I don't think it is "obvious" that people are thin-skinned or
have guilt complexes. What is "obvious" here is that you have pointed a
rather derogatory finger at a rather large group of people (those who load
up and leave after rides) and have accused them of not caring about their
horses, when in fact, only a tiny percentage of the people who do that are
deserving of your ire. Yes, they are "out there." But they are such a tiny
percentage of the whole that most of us know them by name (the ones that
ride where we ride), and we understand that it is a problem of occasional
uncaring, unfeeling, or ignornant individuals, not a problem of leaving
rides early.
