[RC] ideas for people hydration - sharp penny
I have found using Pro Hydrator has helped tremendously.
(another helpful tip from my long distance marathon
friend)I buy it at my local GNC store. Follow the usage
instructions for your body weight. You have to drink the
recomended amount 2 hours before you ride, finishing it a
half hour before you ride. To me that is hard to do, I have
to force myself to drink that early in the am but it is
well worth it! Then during the ride I sip the maintance
amount as I need it. I freeze the water in my water bottles
that I carry and add the pro hydrator. By the time I need
it, the water has melted but is still very cold. Then at
vet checks I switch the old melted water bottles for some
new frozen water bottles. I found that I no longer got
those awful heat related headaches and my heart rate stayed
lower during the intense Tx. heat and humidity, helping to
keep me a bit cooler. Also you have less urine production
using Pro Hydrator, which for me is an added plus out on
the trail. :) At vet checks I have a 16oz bottle of water
mixed with Emergen-C to drink. I like the strawberry and
tangerine flavors. I too, gag at the thought of most sports
drinks, way to sweet for me ...yuck.
For an instant pick me up, keep a wet wash cloth in your
ice cooler or refigerator. At vet checks put the cloth on
the back of your neck and forehead...ahhhh!
I also have a hard time eating the day of the ride but I
have found carbo loading on pasta or rice and beans the
night before helps. Kinda stays with you the next day when
you need it. The day of the ride I like having fresh fruit
cut up in finger sized portions waiting for me in my
cooler. When I'm hot that's about the only thing that I can
keep down.
Regards,
Penny
