I have not been participating in any of these discussions as of yet however,
I would just like to point out that what Scott is specifically saying is
exactly what you wrote. He wants the ability and the free to do what makes
him happy. I also think, after reading all e-mails from him, that he is more
than willing and eager to listen to anyone's suggestions, comments, ideas,
disagreements as long as they are not telling him what he can or cannot do by
pushing some sort of policy for all that effects him as an individual. As
you said, he may very well be thick headed and that is why he feels that he
doesn't need or want to wear a helmet but that decision should be up to him.
I also firmly feel that everyone should have the freedom to do with
themselves what they want. I get the impression that he is just pointing out
that once some sort of policy is passed that helmets are required in every
ride, what will be next? Elbow pads? Knee pads? Back brace? And, ofcourse,
you know that something will be next! There always has to be an issue! I
think that if we founded this country without the necessity of wearing
helmets, we probably do not have to pass a policy that says we have to wear
them now.
Just a thought.
