[RC] Human hydration - Rides 2 Far
> What do y'all do to make sure you stay well-hydrated during
> endurance rides?
Water
V-8 Splash
Orange Juice plus Calcium
Cran Apple Juice
Just discovered the V-8 splash fruit drink. LOVE it. I chug-a-lug lots
of that in a vet check. Don't know though, I don't think of Gatorade as
sweet...sort of watery really. I occasionally still drink some Gatorade.
I found that on a really hot day when Nina Barnett is barfing Skittles
off her horse and other riders are staggering around with heatwaves
coming off their helmet that orange juice with calcium sits really well
with me. Last year we had some problems with feeling like I *really*
needed to pee and couldn't (NOT fun on a 100) and started drinking
Cranapple Juice on recommendation of others and after 2 rides problem
disappeared.
>>I work, and how frequently I need to urinate afterward.
You don't like the post-ride dehydration? I LOVE it! On the way to a
race I have to be so careful about drinking soft drinks or I'm constantly
having to stop at gas stations. I make *sure* the cooler is within reach
on the drive home though and just happily chug those things all I want
and never have to stop! :-) You gotta look at the bright side.
> Angie, if the answer involves spongeing myself out of puddles, or
anything involving self-administering out of a dosing syringe, I'm going
back to dressage
Well...I DO like to dip my helmet in a bucket before I head out from a
hot check. :-) It feels sooo good running down the back of your neck.

Angie (In the SE where it ain't what you wear, it's how you wear it)
