[RC] FT STANTON MULTI DAY RIDE (NM) July 1 thru 5 - Randy H Eiland
Hi Susan,
There are lots of rentals in the area...probably the closest is the Smoky
the Bear (Motel?) in Capitan - about 4 miles from Base Camp. Ruidoso has
many motels, cabins, etc but is about 20 miles from Base Camp - all paved
good roads and about a 35 minute +/- drive. Lincoln NM has several Bed &
Breakfast units and is about 7 miles from Base Camp. I would suggest the
Ruidoso Chamber of Commerce for leads...I will look thru my files for
info, too.
Trails are rolling hills, grassy plains, some climbs but nothing as steep
as Timberon. Footing ranges from good to rocky and both are in each day.
Weather will probably be cool evenings, warm to hot days...beginning of
our rainy season so there could be afternoon showers.....if we are lucky,
there will be good cloud cover and the days will be very comfortable. I
think the average temps are probably around mid to upper 80's daytime and
mid to upper 60's at night...but you know how the SW is, nothing tends to
be average.

Can anyone give me some leads for lodging near the
base camp at Ft Stanton, NM?
Also, what are the trails like? What will the weather
be like during the first week of July?
Thanks so much for your input and help.
