[RC] RM Education - Nancy Mitts
I'm working on a longer reply to some of Roger's points, but thought I'd
throw this in now.
Regional organizations.
Our Central Region convention offers ride managers & prospective ride
managers the opportunity to get together & discuss how we do things, why,
what works, doesn't, etc.
Within that framework, Texas has endurance organizations & OK, KS, AR, MO
has OCER. Those organizations set guidelines & offer info for managing rides
along with AERC.
That's not to say everything works out perfectly all the time, but they are
resources for beginning managers.

Competent, educated Ride Managers.
And how does AERC go about making sure we have those?
Our ride manager's handbook is the only other puzzle piece
that AERC provides, unless you count the ride manager's forum at
convention.
The ride manager's handbook doesn't include consideration for
situations like what Roger is describing, nor any of the other tough
decisions RMs should be making during the conduct of the ride itself.
There is some formidable experience on our BOD in terms of ride
management. I would love to see some of this know-how codified into
the handbook so that more people could learn what it takes to put on
a good ride, and help RMs with some foreknowledge of the "right
roads" to take.
