Re: [RC] Wine Country/Gastroguard - kathy . mayeda

Very good questions, Angie. Beau wasn't eating or
drinking very well before, during or immediately after
the ride so there wasn't an issue of withholding feed.
Apparently he had enough reserves from his normal
pasture living and preloading that he was able to go
through the ride well. I electrolyted him quite well
after the thumping incident and it resolved quite
nicely. I had the Melissa Ribley check him out back at
the camp between checking in for the ulcer study and
having him scoped, and the thumps was gone by then.

By the time I took him out of the trailer back at home,
he was ravenous. I was talking to Becky Hart about
getting him into another living situation where I could
withhold alfalfa and he was trying to eat the pecan tree
and pulling my arms out of the socket trying to get to
anything he could eat. I let him eat hay for a few
minutes, but he was so busy calling to his buddies, I
just put him out in the pasture. He took off galloping
up the hill. This is my metabolically compromised horse.

This is a very competitive minded horse. If it wasn't
for the thumping and the ulcer (minor details, huh?) I
think that he could be a real winner in endurance. Both
    these problems are manageable.

I need a sport psychologist for this horse.
