Probably isn't standard, but I've always measured
the space between the tracks (back of hind to front of fore). If they
don't overstride enough to have a space, then I just describe it as how much of
the front hoofprint they cover with the hind. Probably would make more
sense to measure toe-to-toe, but I got started the way I do it because the
old-timer that mentored me did it that way....
