Re: [RC] Fencing question - Linda Flemmer
Angie,
My take on it...
Treated pine uses arsenic - toxic. Leaches out into
the soil, even if they aren't chewers.
Treated Pine seems to break easier than oak.
Our rough cut oak is holding up well (8 years now)
Rough cut lumber from a local mill is often less
expensive than dimensional lumber from Lowes/Builders
Square, etc.
(Now don't throw things at me - I know you said wood
only) - We're replacing everything with the Centaur
fencing. Vinyl/polymer of some sort making a "board"
between two hi tensile wires. We can climb thru it,
doesn't break, easy to ut up, cheaper than wood, never
needs paint (not that we ever painted the board
fence). Safe - one of our horses has learned that he
can "blounce off the ropes" at speed to change
directions - like a pro wrestler. It's a hoot to
watch him.
