Ridecamp: [RC] scary hitch stories..

gee, i too had a scary hitch story.
but this one was with an empty trailer, and the hitch was on a brand new 
dodge, about 2 years old. but the hitch its self was faulty, the metal was 
weak or something, because the damn thing fell apart from a weld point.
this was a factory installed package, and they immediately replaced it and 
apologized. the dealer said he never saw such a thing.
i still couldn't believe my eyes.......
i also had another story where a hitch probably saved my life;
i had a class 3 on a big car to tow my camper. i was rear ended at 55 miles 
an hour (no trailer) my car didn't look  too bad, but the other girl totaled 
her car and ended up in the hospital.
i only realized how bad the damage was  when i took off the hitch and saw how 
mangled the thing was. her bumper hit my hitch square, and bent the frame of 
the car. the whole rear end was pushed  in. if i didn't have a hitch, she 
would have been in my back seat. my car was totaled by the insurance company, 
and my mechanic told me i was lucky.
I'm gonna put a hitch on everything!
