Dear ridecampers,
Couldn't ignore the recent conjecture about green horses on rides. On my
first ride I was camping with my training partner(we only had one electric
paddock). The morning of the ride we decided to part ways as I wanted to pace my
horse alot slower. It was CTR,so we each went out when our numbers were
called.Viktor,(my horse) trotted out quietly-but the realization that his BUDDY
was way ahead soon sunk in.He began bellowing at the top of his lungs
and doing a huge trot.Ahead of us was a group of eight with a white arab
that looked like our "buddy".Needless to say it took all my strength to keep him
back behind this group. He looked agitated for the first ten miles or so,and then
he got over it. When we wanted to blow off steam I called "on your left",and we
galloped by.We survived even though I wouldn't call his behavior perfect.I think
most everyone at a ride is concerned with safety. But let's face it-it's not a
lady's tea party,either.Horses catch on quick that it's a race(in endurance),
and they want to go! Another ride we galloped over a small hill and found a lady
and her daughter stopped on the trail.I had to veer sharply to the right and
avoid ramming her -it happens.I now like to gallop only when I can really see
ahead of me-Viktor wouln't look good with an eye patch!
Peace be with you,
Alicia and Viktor
