[RC] new horse - Sundaez
Hi all...got a new horse last week. actually I got him for my husband. He's a
grade sorrel 10 yo. gelding. Looks like QH/arab...plus some gaited breed like
TWH or MFT (he does a real nice singlefoot). The reason why I think there is
arab is he as real curly ears, fine silky hair and skin, smaller muzzle,
convex forehead like I've seen in some arabs but no dish. The QH part is
obvious in the hip. Neck is tied in horribly with real high withers, but he
is surprisingly smooth. I'm not sure how he'd do at distance riding as he's a
bit bulky but he's so much fun I may try.
Anyway...question is: He has been ridden in a HALTER (rope Parelli
type...reins hooked at the bottom!) all his life. Owners said "he doesn't
like the bit." I put him in a snaffle and sure enough he promptly put his
tongue over it. So...since I'm a bit skeptical about riding in a halter I put
him in a sidepull. So far he seems ok but wow it's hard to get softness and
collection...it's not fine enough. Does a hack allow for same refinement as
a bit? Would love to hear from bitless riders...since I've never done this.
