Title: RE: [RC] [RC] FEI Ride aka Masters
Series
Our involvement has always been on an individual basis, not as a
nation. We are an independent , soverign nation with our own issues
and challenges, our own means of dealing with the FEI, etc.Our own
National Federation, Equine Canada, whom our national organization,
The Canadian Long Distance Riding Association (CaLDRA) 'reports' to as
one of the national discipline associations.
While AERC is very highly regarded in Canada, it does not have a
role in our governance, either at the national or NF level.
That AERC 'invented' the sport and continues to be a leader, is
gratefully acknowledged.
But, Canada is not part of the AERC, regardless of what the web
site states. Canada is simply included in a carved up fashion
with your regions.
There is no 'Canada' region of AERC and I would question
having Canada participate in the AERC in that way. But, Canadians have
taken part at rider, ride management and director level.
I doubt that your governance (bylaws, etc) includes or would
include other nations as part of your mandate. AERC simply isn't set
up to be a global association.
However, we are good 'friends' and many of your values are
enthusiastically supported and promoted. You guys have a great system
for rewards and points! <g>
But, at the end of the day. We have to do our thing, our
way.
Cheers

Truman:
The FEI does not recognize the AERC as a sanctioning
body. They only work with the National Federations. In the USA the
National Federation, USA-E recognizes the AERC and so states it in
their rules. I do not believe that the Canadian Federation has any
affiliation with the AERC. At least I have never seen such published.
Perhaps our neighbors to the North can confirm this fact. How they
work with FEI is their business and has no bearing on AERC except in
the context of Rule 8.4 where the Great Northern Connection 75 would
be FEI rides or
endurance rides in a foreign country at least 50 miles long and
sanctioned by an AERC recognized organization. I believe the AERC does
recognize the FEI as a sanctioning organization though there has never
been a statement to that effect.

My question is, "is or is not Canada come under the
AERC unbrella?" If Canada does come under the AERC, then as far
as the AERC is concerned does Canada fit the definition of
"foreign country" in this rule? Yes Canadians carry
Canadian passports - not US passports. On the other hand the AERC
states that they are the "sanctioning body for endurance in the
US and Canada." In this case I do not read rule 8.4 to
include Canada as a "foreign country," since it is
within the perview of the AERC. I would read the defineition of
"foreign country" to all countries other than the US
and Canada (the two countires covered by the AERC). Would the AERC
recogonize a non sanctioned (even if somehow it managed to get FEI
sanctioning) ride if it were run in the US?
I am not sure I see it back and white here.

Pan Am was not run in conjuction with an AERC ride and the
Pan Am did not request AERC sanctioning and denied such
sanctioning.
That's where I see the difference.

would this be different?
