Thanks for all the help. I will take the info on the Onchocerca to the vet.,They are both new young vets. I don't think it's rain rot , because I 've had it before, Rascal is prone to it and I bath and treat them if they get rained on.The rain is part of Georgia, it warms up ,rains and all the bugs come out. But it only happens in winter in a warm spell. But your ideas on a mange mite struck a note, I thought of that possibility before. I seem to notice it got better after worming and thought , maybe a connection. Anytime I did something I was trying to see if it affected them. And the first time it happened was to a new pony we'd just bought and brought home from out of state. Couldn't keep them stalled , they eat the stall if left in , and it would make them nuts, stall vices are not a good alternative, and bugs get in the barn too. I have sent for the fly predators and will go after bugs more aggressively. But there are plenty of horses within a mile or two and they haven't gotten this. I don't think I'd see a fungus go after 6 different horses in the same place, yet skip the baby, and the two that left never had a reoccurrence. However my daughter brought her horse home this week and he may be next. . . It is reoccurring to various levels on the 4 here all the time.It is held in check seemingly by topical treatments of various kinds. It is in the same place on the 4, but on the pony it was on lower mane, once, my daughters horse was on tail. But they left property and never got it again. A bacteria? or the mange? mite seems more likely. I just need a treatment that I don't have to move or sell my horses to afford . UUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!! Thanks I'll give this info to the vets.
