the syringes with the big tips are called "cath tip" or "catheter tip" or as 
Angie notes, sometimes "irrigation syringes".  The ones you want to avoid are 
called Luer locks.

Because of the problem with losing the little caps, I prefer the squirt 
bottle method.  But then again I'm not anywhere near competitive enough to 
try it at the trot!  :-)
