    I've seen that with both sand and ulcers...  The horse with ulcers was put
    on apple cider vinegar and it seemed to help.  We managed it for nearly 10
    years with just that, although that may have been atypical.  He died this
    past fall -- in his mid- to late-20s.
    
    Since we live in a sandy area ("sugar sand"), I feed hay, beet pulp (just
    started this one) and use psyllium.  I had a sand colic and she didn't
    survive.  It was one of my broodmares.  My horses don't think they can eat
    unless they dump their feed on the ground.  My vet has the same problem with
    his and is dealing with it the same way I am (except for the beet pulp).
