[RC] Ride & Tie insights - Ridecamp Guest

Just read Tom's post on horses as the true athletes - we just sit there and they do all the work. So true, even if you crew for yourself. A friend and I recently tried a 10 mile R&T and I foudn it an exhilarating experience but also a great dmeonstration of how hard our horses work. I'm in pretty good shape and chose to be on the ground for a long uphill climb - thought my heart would pop through my chest and tried to just keep moving. My horse got a real kick out of seeing us crazy humans running around...he had an easy day compared to us.
I tried NATRC along time ago but despise the rule that prevents oyu from getting off your horse during forward motion - I like to think my horse really appreciates me getting off and running beside him on downhills - and I know it's saved his legs at Biltmore so he stayed sound despite the fast pace.
Endurance has made me love horses even more for all they do for us willingly, and ask for so little in return - a head rub and some food.
