Yup...my mare was similar to Mike's horse - was on the track for four years, had several injuries while a racehorse requiring layups and bute, nervous disposition, etc. After 3 years of semi-success at endurance - a couple of pulls for colicy behavior, I was complaining to Donna Synder-Smith about my horse's metabolic issues (not eating, drinking, acting colicy, bad mood, low gut sounds, etc) and she suggested I get her scoped. Sure enough, her stomach was full of them. Vet put her on 60 days of expensive meds and re-scoped. She had cleared up, but after a couple of more rides, the symptoms reappeared. The horse is now retired from endurance - enjoys her pasture and noncompetitive trail rides.
