[RC] Ulcer Research/USA - Roger Rittenhouse
FROM Roger Rittenhouse roger@xxxxxxxxxxx
Hey Mike S - I looked
at a few of your citing aka sites. As well as a lookup at
ww.thehorse.com
It does appear your "90%" of so called or alleged 'performance' horses ,
are OTHER then endurance/ctr/distance horses.
We do not appear to manage ours the same way or the method that is
conducive to ulcers.
We MAY have problems associated with PELLETED feeds, a form I never
really have cared for, and try my best NOT to use.
>From my conversations with riders and vets, the consensus is OUR
horses will not have ulcers. It is just now becoming the latest
'dis-ease' fad.
I will still bet on the study showing almost NO ulcers. Hopefully a
few will get their horse scoped. And if a few do get 'colicky at the
ride THEY sure would be a good subject to look at.
I really DO NOT see a market for this product in endurance.
Horses that go off their feed due to travel and a ride, appear to
recover well with the oral acid control products like U-GUARD and the
others. We really only need to manage a situation for a short period
of time - then get the guts back to normal. with feed /hay/pasture/
turn out .. REST....
I am sure we will here of the results from Jess..
Does ANYONE on this list have a horse with an ulcer? OR do you know someone who has a
horse with ulcers.. other then the vets.. I just dont hear anyone
complaining about that problem.
We have REAL performance horse issues , not MISMANAGEMENT induced horse
issues.
