I will
have to disagree that it can’t be a spectator sport…to some degree it can. When the WCE was held in Kansas we made
the trail so that it ran thru the Flint Hills but close enough to the farm
roads so that people could watch.
And they did come! It was
the most amazing sight to me to run back and forth to vet checks and see cars,
trucks and people lined up along fence lines waiting for the horses to run
by. They still talk about it in
the small towns around Manhattan…they would love to have it back! So, depending on the venue, there is
always a chance.
And why
would we? Because there is nothing
more beautiful than watching conditioned horses trotting/cantering across hills
and pastures. I love driving
through cow country (Flint Hills, KS…anywhere in Montana, Wyoming,
Colorado, Texas etc) and watching
the cowboys work the ranches. It’s
the fantasy of lots of small children and old people.

it is and will remain King of The Hill here, too! Just DON'T
let's stink it up thinking it needs all this spectator sport garbage. It ISN'T
one, and CAN'T be unless they decide to run 548 laps around Santa Anita.
