RE: [RC] Eco challenge - Ridecamp Guest

Eco-challenge had a race here in Bozeman Montana a few years ago and a friend competed, but not completed it.
The horse portion is pretty whimpy. The typical eco-challenge has a four-person team and all must finish the race to get a completion. The horse part is only one short portion of sometimes 200 plus mile races. Only one person on the team rides the horse and they have to fill out a questionnaire of basic horse knowledge to be that rider. It becomes part of the strategy of the team to get someone that can do that part of the race.
The horses here were provided from a local dude string. The horses were more than capable of doing 20 miles slowly and used to carrying non-riders, of which, from what I could see, every participant was. Since it doesn't do the horse rider any good to get to the end of their ride before the rest of the team, the 20 miles is done at a walk or a slow jog trot. Hopefully they don't get bucked off. Seems the danger is far more for the rider than the horse.
On the same subject and along with Sandy's post, endurance promoters could do themselves a favor by watching how eco-challenge races are produced for television and show not only the winning teams, but the drama of actually participating and finishing an endurance feat. just my two cents (worth about 0.001 cent in today's market)
