[RC] Running Walk vs.Fox-Trot - Ridecamp Guest

Kitty dear, you've evaded or misinterpreted the question. The question is not "which gait/speed is best for your horse".The question is more like "which of the two gaits is BETTER,least likely to end in disaster, when traveling of neccesity very quickly in that aforementioned horrid terrain?".This is not a "trail rider" situation, where the rider simply slows down or avoids certain terrain to accomodate the horse. To re-phrase it a bit,say that the cover is 2-3 feet high, and the entire area is full of downed saplings and other junk that you and the horse can't see.You MUST travel fast in either a fox-trot or a RW,as fast as horse A can fox-trot or as fast as horse B can r-w.My opinion is that horse A will be disaster in that situation, while horse B's r-w will be optimum, better than any other gait by any type of horse, with the possible exception of a lope. This is the kind of situation a field trial scout will often be in. TheTWH's I see who excel are not pacing, stepping pacing,racking,single-footing,or fox-trotting.They are doing a strong head-nodding running walk/and lope. The rest of us cannot safely travel that fast, except in a lope,if we have one, which most rackers don't.
