Bob,  The same people who loose their intregrity for a pair of running shoes or a stolen car will loose it on a horse race too.  This battle has been going on for eons.  I don't have the answer but i know its coming and i think well thought out responces and positions and safeguards are better than just ignoring it or wishing it to go away.  Being in the minority on this one i know its unpopular but it will come up soon and a protective guard for the welfare of the horse is more paramount to me than popularity.  tom sites

It is not the fact that the purses may be big. It is not the fact that money is available. It is not the fact that some people do not care.

It is the lack of integrity of some competitors and their supporters. This lack of integrity starts with the AERC Rules and Regulations. These are very simple statements and stand on their own merits. It is the lack of integrity on the part of some competitors that questioned these rules and regulations and lead to the extension by the addition of rule subsections. It is the lack of integrity that leads the AERC to have a number of protests each year as more and more riders try to stretch the limits.

Integrity does not cost you any money. It may cost you a small bit of effort. It can cost you a tremendous amount of respect when you ignore it. Is it really worth it?

Oh, i just love RC.  Where we can discuss differances of opinion in a civil manner.  Intregrity. civility, Love,  empathy, kindness  etc...all cost nothing.  Horses, tack, shoes, Vets, entry fees,  land, fences, trucks, trailers, insurance etc...all cost something.  Over time i realize my grant to study the Sexual Lives of Savages probably won't come thru.  My poetry will never bring even a return on my pens and paper.  Since we live in a capitalistic society and socialism is dead then i have to be pragmatic about the situation.  The purists who want to keep $$ out should realize that Flat Track Racing to me injures and kills more horses than endurance ever will.  The walking horses look inhumane to me.  So this sport Endurance is gonna remain pure?  If you can't trust a priest who can you anymore?    Howard,  how do you figure your Gal Val keeps it up? Does she make a buck how she can?  I say go for it...
for if money comes in so should all those intangibles that cost nothing.  Thats where AERC and the Vets come in and believe me folks its coming in and you can sit back and cry PURITY or you can shout CONTROL.  tom sites
