I've found it's best to let Coastal Bermuda "sit" for at least about 10
days after baling before I feed it. When I've given in to temptation and
fed it right away I have gotten some gassy colics. Nothing we couldn't
walk out with a little Banamine, but no fun. I know some people who won't
feed it because they've done this. Now I wait and have had NO more
problems.
I don't like first cutting hay around here much because I guess due to
our humidity and wet springs it tends to not be as well cured. No bad
mold, just slightly dusty heavier bales that don't smell as sweet as the
later cuttings. May just be a Southeast thing.
