We had a series of caretakers when we lived in CA.  Early on we used 
friends who weren't horse savvy.  What a mistake!  One guy confessed to us 
(several years after he had moved on) that if he went to a party that got 
too crazy so that he didn't want to come home, he wouldn't.  He'd miss the 
dinner and breakfast feeds.  But, he said, it wasn't a problem because he'd 
just feed two or three times as much whenever he finally got home.

Why the horses didn't all colic I'll never know.
