RC: GPS question]
Anna...
This site will give you a good overview of the major products.
http://www.gpsnow.com/maptable.htm
I have Garmin's Mapsource for uploading and dowloading topo maps to my
GPSIII. However, it's kinda rudimentary for other things. I also have
Wildflowers' TOPO! and DeLorme's Topo USA 3.0. Keep in mind that you
must not only buy the program, but also purchase an additional piece of
software for detailed maps in the area you are interested in. For
example, with DeLorme, you must buy the TopoQuad for your area.
(Southeast for me). If you are interested in ease of use, good
function, and and easy to use interface, Wildflower's TOPO! is nice.
They don't have topo's for all areas, so check before you buy the
software. DeLorme's has the most function, with all kinds of gee whiz
features like 3D views, rotate, elevations, etc. It has one unique
function I really like for printing maps. It lets me create, save and
size my own symbols. Haven't found another program which does that.
Jim, Sun of Dimanche, and Mahada Magic
