Having had a similar ptoblem with the saddle I had prior to my sport saddle, the sadle maker suggested using a shorter girth, said it was more comfortable for the horse. I think they were right. When I switched to a sport saddle, we still used a short girth with longer billets, but I also use the back billets for better balance (adapter also from sportack) so my girth is the mohair one with two buckles on each side, 22". Hope that helps. The alternative is half chaps, which I find I need anyway with my sport saddle, because the stirrup buckles rub my shins.
