GPS measurement
I do want to add to my earlier comments. Do not use a GPS only to
measure trails. I believe your ride will always be long if you do so. I
agree with Trumans and others comments on this regard. My experience
comes from several years of measuring with a GPS handheld while also
having a wheel measuring, whether mountain bike or pickup. And many
times the GPS mileage is less than the wheel. This mostly occurs on
winding trails or under trees. But it is obvious the GPS either briefly
loses contact and doesn't measure part of the trail, or cuts corners on
winding trails.
Glad to have this discussion on RC, there will always be people that
like it one way or the other, but like even Kat says, there are rides it
works on. It will be interesting to look back at this in 20 years, to
see where we have gone.
