Well, every situation is different, but for my guys right now, I prefer
Complete Advantage because it's lower fiber and higher energy---they have
free choice grass hay and a little alfalfa in front of them all the time,
plus 24/7 access to pasture, so sufficient fiber isn't at issue. I want to
put a little more weight onto them prior to really cold weather, so higher
energy is more important to me right now. The CA is beet pulp based, which
I like---it's a good source of energy without adding alot of grain, but
there is some grain in there, again for calories, but not an outrageous
amount. I can put alot out there and not be worried about anyone colicking
or foundering. Plus, everyone has good teeth, so munching it up isn't an
issue, not that CA takes much to munch.
The Senior is good, but fiber is around 17-18% versus 13-14% for the CA.
There's a direct inverse correlation between fiber content and energy
content, so lower fiber means more calories per pound (unless the higher
fiber feed has significant added fat, which the senior doesn't). So, since
I'm interested in more calories than fiber, the CA gives me more bang for my
buck.
