When my horse is “racy” he just pushes his nose against the noseband of the sidepull and his heads stretched forward. I can get him collected with a bit, but I can’t get him as well collected with a sidepull. Maybe we just need practice.
S-hack he travels pretty nicely when he’s relaxed.

I've tried a vosal and a side pull on the same horse. With the vosal, the head
went up. With the side pull the head was in about the same place as a bit. I
didn't notice an more weight on the forehand with the side pull than I did
with the bit.
