Fwd: trails for all SB 196

---- Begin included message ----
governor@governor.ca.gov    Re: Funding for non-motorized trails  -  SB 196  This can be done by email. Just copy, paste & rewrite.  It will only take a minute.  IF EACH OF YOU SENT A SHORT NOTE TO THE GOVERNOR, IT WOULD MAKE A  DIFFERENCE  FOR TRAILS.  PLEASE TAKE THE TIME NOW.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

This Bond is on the Governor's desk.  Deadline is about October 5th.
Please send this to other trail advocates.  This will be a chance to apply for funding for trails if it passes the governor.  Below is a sample letter that was sent -- please do not copy it word for word.  Use it to help create your own letter ASAP.

governor@governor.ca.gov    Re: Funding for non-motorized trails  -  SB 196

AVTREC is a charitable organization dedicated to the acquisition and
preservation of multi-use trails for hikers, bicyclists and equestrians  in
Los Angeles County.  Trails and open space are important to us and the
future of our communities.  Many outdoor opportunities will be lost if we
don't act now to save the trails for the next generation.

We ask that you help us in our efforts to develop a network of trails
throughout California by including $250 million in SB 196 for competitive
grants to non-motorized trail projects. We ask that this program be
administered as a competitive statewide funding program, and that State and
local agencies, special districts, and eligible non-profit organizations be
allowed to apply.

Only half of one percent was given to non-motorized trails in the last Park
Bond, Proposition 12.  We ask that non-motorized trails be given more
monetary consideration  in SB196.

We support you in your efforts to secure the 2002 bond for parks and
recreation.

Thank you for your consideration and for your support.
