The best clippers for this type of coat are the cable clippers made by Double K Industries (Located in Northridge, CA (800) 821-9449.  They are expensive, but the best for heavy coats.  Just make sure you have a can of Cool Lube to spray your blade frequently so that it doesn't heat up and burn your horse.  These clippers are cable driven; therefore, they are quiet and do not drag when they hit the heavy coated areas.
