I'm so sorry about your loss.  As I read your post, I came up with an idea.
Braid a section of hair so that it's about an inch in diameter, and glue it
around a plain wooden picture frame as a border and insert your favorite
picture of your mare.  I look forward to seeing what the other suggestions
are.

My 5 year old 1/2 arab mare was euthanized Thursday.  The vet clinic
braided & clipped a portion of her mane and tail for me.  Does anyone have
suggestions are what I can make from these braids so I'll always have
something to remember her by?
