Re: RC: Re: People diet for endurance
Ok, on the topic of rider health - I suffer from the incredibly painful
headaches after a ride. I take 6 water bottles on the loop with me,
drink 3 of them, pour the rest on Scarlet. I try to eat during the hold,
drink Gatorade, then refill all the water for the second loop. It seems
to help some - I'm not completely sacked out in my tent wanting to die
anymore, but it still hurts pretty bad. Anyone have any suggestions that
could help eliminate these headaches? I'm afraid to even try a 50 since
the 25's are so hard.

After a lot of experimenting have found a really simple way to keep
my blood sugar & energy level stable plus keeping hydrated. I
generally carry four water bottles...... two with water, one with gatorade,
one of orange juice with gatorade and powdered protein added. Has
really made a difference. Whenever possible I mix everything up ahead
of time & freeze it. (Not always practical, but nice.) If the
weather is too hot to carry juice w/o it going sour I'd add the protein
powder to a second gatorade. It seems like the combination of electrolytes
and protein just works. Plus when mixed with the orange juice the
protein balances out the carbs in the juice. Also, carry almonds.
