The first year we rode endurance, my gelding looked AWFUL and I had been
doing EVERYTHING. Beet pulp, oil, you name it, I tried it. After that
first year it was as if his body or metabolism or something adjusted and he
looked great even doing 50s. He finally settled in with lots of grass hay
and pasture, some grain with beet pulp and oil when he was working hard and
a selenium and E supplement. That's about it nowadays, too. My stallion is
not looking as wonderful as I would like this year and we haven't been
competing much at all but I have decided it is partly due to the fact he is
young (6 yo) and a stallion. I am not going to panic at this point because
I think he will look like a different horse next year...I have noticed each
spring he tends to look more grown up and filled out than the year
previous....just my experience.
