I just ordered a Saare saddle. Sharon has talked to me since early July, even
when I looked at several other saddles and thought I'd go that route. I must
say she was very nice and spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me, even
when at that time, she knew I wasn't going to order her saddle.
Sharon has been in the process of putting her mother in an assisted living
facility in California. I talked with a woman who returned my call yesterday
from her saddle shop and said Sharon may be back Sunday or Monday, she wasn't
sure. I forgot to ask if she was flying, that would certainly slow her return
down.
When I was bringing my new horse, Nykoss, home from Colorado to Texas I
stopped in Raton, NM to have Sue Romero fit him. I liked being able to see
the baretree and how it fit him. Sue is a great person and I enjoyed the time
spent at her place, plus got to see her art studio.
Sue explained to me the fitting fee. It isn't that they mind someone buying a
second hand saddle but many times fitters have taken their time to fit a horse
only to have the person want a second hand saddle. I know Sue spent at least
two hours with me. Althought I was at her place, many times I understand a
fitter will bring trees with them to races or go to a place to fit a horse.
So I could understand the fitting fee as in the past before they implemented
the fee their time was unpaid for. It comes off the saddle price anyways.
Also, if I were to buy a second hand Saare I'd not mind paying the fitting
fee. And of course, Sharon would prefer the saddle fit not only the horse
but you. Sharon also mentioned there are some knockoffs of her saddle.
If you are truly interested in a Saare all I can say is be a bit patient right
now. Sharon should be available next week. I've had to put my mother-in-law
in an assisted living facility last winter so I know how difficult it can be
trying to get all bases covered during such a stressful time as this.
