RE: Re Terrorist--Maryanne's post
Thanks Charlotte.
Actually, I'm about to cash it in because it is almost 11 pm here. I've been
watching CNN for about 7 hours now and I find a number of things
interesting. One is that if this were a foreign terrorist organisation, they
should be killing themselves to claim such a victory. But they are not. No
one has claimed anything. Another point brought up by people interviewed on
CNN is the amazing organisation and planning required to handle this
tragedy. Two US airlines....only two. We sit here in the Middle East with
images of Oklahoma City in our minds....and what better way to misdirect
attention to the Arab world than to hit the World Trade Center? One or two
people have made oblique references to other countries with inner problems
that have led to terrorism. Is this not possible in the US? Things that I've
seen make it seem possible. I really hope it's not some wacko Arab
group...we have enough trouble. Besides, we're not that organised.

Subject: RC: Re Terrorist--Maryanne's post
MaryAnne made a probably unpopular but very valid (and IMO corageous)point.
You're talking about people who have been getting killed and having their
homes and livelihoods destroyed for *years* now, while to their eyes, the
US not only didn't help, but sent aid to their oppressors. A certain amount
of "Now *you* know how it feels" is understandable.
I have a friend (American) who visited the West Bank several years ago, and
later told me he'd never been so scared in his life as he was walking past
the Israeli army security lines. And he's a military vet.
I just hope the folks in charge here don't confuse justice with vengeance...
As Ghandi said, "an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind."
