Beau’s dam had horrible looking melanomas under her tail and they didn’t bother her. She lived to be 30 years old. Beau has little beany lumps under his tail, one at his poll and one near the girth. Doesn’t bother him. May be a genetic component? We never used the “C” word for them because they were apparently pretty benign.

Having two greys one a 20 yr old who spent most of his life in a pasture,
this is the first of I have heard of this. The skin on my Arabs is dark or
black. I just wonder if this is an old wife's tale. New to me.

Heidi,
Thanks for response. Is this a "new" thing? I never heard of this as a kid
( had a grey mare then) . Just since the ozone-thing? I know, as
Scandanavian descent, I use lots of sun screen and some in the winter, too.
Coastal SC.
I see a lot of bug repellants have sunscreen in them. Wonder if the
sunscreen is adequate?
Or is the cancer Not Sun Related? ARG!
Thanks
