Gaited Horses
We've been enjoying using our Kentucky Mtn. Horses in endurance. They
have a nice unanimated natural 4 beat gait. It's quite efficient. Our 8 year
old, Raven, completed the Tevis this year! As did a TWH! Yes, gaited horses
are made for going all day long, comfortably. The less animated the gait,
the longer they can go. They use less energy than the high steppers. I'm on
a gaited team here in the PNER region that is made up of mostly Peruvian
Paso's. Julie Suhr has completed Tevis on a Peruvian twice!
My dad, Bob Walz, will be riding Raven at the Wild West ride this weekend.
The next weekend I'll be riding Almost Chocolate, our other KMSH at the
Oregon Dunes ride. Looks like we'll have them both together at Pacific Crest
this year!
The website for the mountain horse ranch where my dad got ours is:
http://www.rockymountainhorses.com You can see our horses in the Owners
Gallery on the site.
Ridin' smooth!
