Re: Injury/death figures

Having just completed a book on equine liability, and having done the
research, I'd suggest the following two articles:

Injuries in Equestrian Sports, The Physician and Sports Medicine, Volume
22, Number 10, October 1996, page 54; Consumer Product Safety Review,

Sports Injuries, edited by Richard C. Schneider, M.D.; John C. Kennedy,
M.D., F.R.C.S.(C), Williams & Wilkins, Baltimore 1985

Another source is the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System
(NEISS). This information is online, but I don't have the web address.
NEISS records number of emergency room admissions for each year in various
catagories. Horse related accidents account for 60,000+ injuries per
year.

Bicycling has more injuries, but also has a vastly greater number of
participants.
