Yuck - could have done without the image of bloated animals in the streams!
<G> Interesting thought about the calcium, though...and yes, there was some
gravel (mostly iron ore) on these roads. The puddles were due to rain -
there had been a line of heavy thunderstorms move through early that morning
that in fact delayed the start of the ride 30 minutes. I've drank (drunk?)
out of mud puddles after a rain in Utah while backpacking - didn't taste all
that great, but we were out of water due to a supposed spring being dry, it
was in the 90s, and it was at least wet! Like you said, beggars can't be
choosers! <G>
The water in the streams wasn't cold (I was sponging with it so felt it) -
can't find cold water in East Texas during the summer. :( I just figured
he wasn't used to clear, moving water (another rarity). I guess the day we
figure out what horses are thinking it's time to quit riding... :)
